While you wait

  1. Shut off the water

    Close the valve for that area, or the building's main where the water line enters, usually near the meter or in the mechanical room. Leave fire sprinkler valves alone.

  2. Keep people clear of water and power

    Keep everyone away from water near panels, outlets or equipment. Only switch off a breaker if you can reach it without standing in water.

  3. Sewage backing up?

    Ask everyone to stop using sinks, toilets and floor drains in the building until we arrive.

  4. Protect what you can

    Move stock, records and equipment off the floor, and take photos for your insurance before cleaning up.
